Colwood, B.C. – The West Shore Parks & Recreation Society (WSPR) is proud to celebrate two major milestones in 2026: 60 years of community recreation on the Westshore, and 25 years since the opening of the New Centennial Pool and Weightroom. These anniversaries mark decades of growth, collaboration and dedication to enhancing health, wellness and connection for residents of the Westshore and across Greater Victoria.

West Shore Parks & Recreation Society Seeks Consultant for Recreation Master Plan
The West Shore Parks & Recreation Society (WSPRS), in collaboration with the five municipal owners, has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for a qualified consultant to assess the community’s growing recreational needs. As the Westshore region continues to expand, the demand for improved recreational and sports facilities has increased. The Recreation Master Plan will provide a strategic framework to address these needs and guide the region’s recreational development.

West Shore Parks & Recreation is excited to announce that it is taking the first steps toward the construction of six new outdoor pickleball courts on its property. With the sport continuing to grow in popularity among all ages and abilities, WSPR is committed to enhancing recreational opportunities for the community.

Thrifty Foods signs on as title sponsor for new Westshore Skatepark

 

West Shore Parks & Recreation Society is excited to announce that Thrifty Foods has signed on as title sponsor with naming rights for the new Westshore Skatepark being built on the lower park at WSPR!

The day is here when we can all finally celebrate out loud, and in public, the sponsorship of the Thrifty Foods Skatepark!  We are delighted to have Thrifty Foods on board and to be able to share this incredible journey that will end with an amazing community feature in the Westshore. 

Juan De Fuca Arena 50th Anniversary Celebration:

West Shore Parks & Recreation invite the public to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the JDF Arena on Saturday with $.50 admission rates October 22nd at 3:00pm.

The Juan De Fuca Arena (JDF), on West Shore Parks & Recreation property, has been a community hub since it first opened its doors October 15, 1972. For 50 years the JDF Arena has been home to generations of Westshore families, who have enjoyed the ice and dry floor surface for Hockey, Figure Skating, Lacrosse, and other activities.

Funding from Municipal Owners Makes New Skatepark at West Shore Parks & Recreation a Reality.

The five municipalities that own the lands at West Shore Parks & Recreation (WSPR) are excited to announce their combined contribution of $459,600 to help build a 13,0000 sq/ft skatepark on the lower park at WSPR.

The breakdown for each municipal owner is based on converted assessment and is as follows:
City of Colwood - $99,880, City of Langford - $239,325, District of Highlands - $16,785, District of Metchosin - $36,130 and Town of View Royal - $67,480.

New Skatepark to become a reality at WSPR

West Shore Parks & Recreation Society (WSPRS) is excited to announce the build of a new 13,000 sq/ft skate park on the grounds at West Shore Parks & Recreation Centre.

The Vancouver-based team of New Line Skateparks, in partnership with van der Zalm + associates Canada’s most experienced municipal skatepark design-build team, has been selected as the Project Manager through a recently completed RFP process administered by WSPR staff and West Shore Skate Park Coalition members.
