Call for Artists - Reflections of Our Communities
West Shore Parks & Recreation, [March 10th, 2022] – West Shore Parks & Recreation is calling for Artists’ Expressions of Interests.
Local artists are encouraged to submit an expression of interest to design a piece of artwork which will enhance and provide vibrancy to the new program spaces at Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre.
- 3 calls for emerging & established artists;
- 7 display spaces provided;
- 12 artistic works in total will be selected for the community to celebrate and enjoy;
- $3600 in honorarium funding available.
Deadline for submissions is April 1st, 2022, at 5PM.
Geoff Welham, Manager of Recreation at West Shore Parks & Recreation stated “this opportunity was made possible through partial financial support made by our 5 owner municipalities” he goes on to say “giving local and emerging artists an opportunity to create something beautiful for our new spaces and be compensated financially will be a wonderful opportunity”.
Three specific calls for artists are as followed:
Call #1: Municipal Artists – artists residing in the each of the five Westshore municipalities are invited to apply. Five artists will be selected to display their artistry in our new Juan de Fuca Childcare Centre.
Five x $500 honorariums.
Call #2: Indigenous Artists – individual creations or collaborations led by an emerging and/or established Indigenous artist(s) who represent local Indigenous culture through art. The artwork will be displayed in the new West Shore room.
One x $500 honorarium.
Call #3: Youth Artists - emerging youth artists living in the Westshore between the ages of 13-18 to create a piece of artwork to be displayed in our new Youth room at Juan de Fuca. Six youth artists will be selected.
Six x $100 honorariums.
